"The judges all felt the winners deserved the acclaim because of the thouhgt, technique and work evident. Abstract art should be an unusual take on a subject, but many entrants did not seem to have grasped the concept, sending in landscapes, figures or simply splodges of colour. The winning paintings stood out from the rest - the artists have really thought outside the box."
